Pallay Punchu Mountain of Apu Tacllo (also called Sharp Mountain of Colors or Pallay Poncho Mountain or Condor Sayana) is one of the new tourist destinations in Cusco that was discovered in the middle of quarantine.
Located more than 194 kilometers from the city of Cusco, on a summit of elevation located at 4,791 meters above sea level, it is a large mountain formation dyed in various shades as a result of the complex combination of minerals. The slopes and the summit stand out in various colors, including red, pink, purple, green, pink, white and others. Since 2020, this place has received visitors.
The question of how the Pallay Punchu mountain was formed takes us back 250 million years. When the earth’s crust was forming and the different types of minerals, earth and sand formed layers upon layers, each falling under its own weight.
When the South American and Nazca tectonic plates collided, this caused all the sediment to break up, thus turning over and forming mountain ranges, hills and slopes, displaying the strata vertically and also over time with the winds, rain and all other meteorological phenomena caused the minerals to oxidize so that today it can be seen in the way it is seen.
This incredible place is located in the Andes of Peru, in the Cusco region and in the province of Canas. It belongs to the district of Layo, which is called the “Pallay Punchu del Apu Tacllo”. The photos and videos posted on Facebook made the mountain gain popularity. Since 2020 it has been a tourist attraction visited by travelers.
